aki kuroda cosmocity

April - June 2008

Having last shown his abstract odalisque silhouettes in the UK in 1990, Aki Kuroda has since immersed himself in a new world of inspiration: the Cosmogarden. It is a broad theme encompassing five performance projects in Ivry (1997), Avignon (1993 and 2000) and Paris (1993 and 2000) around the installed universe of his sculptures, paintings and ideas. This stimulating and wide-ranging practice is to be brought together for an exhibition in London for rabih hage : projects.

The Rabih Hage gallery presents a new collection of furniture and ceramics by the innovative British designer Karen Ryan.

With a strong sense of reinvention and construction techniques, Ryan’s unique and distinctive designs provide an interesting dichotomy between cultural comment and functional pieces.

It is important to Ryan that her pieces can be utilised for what they are, whilst she introduces an aesthetic that makes the observer ponder a more profound and ironic message, in what she describes as ‘three-dimensional poetry’.
