Matali Crasset

Matali Crasset trained as an industrial designer. In the same manner of her emblematic work, called “quand Jim monte à Paris” (When Jim goes up to Paris), she has put in place a proper methodology with which she questions the existence of codes that manage our everyday lives and tries to breakaway from these codes and explores alternatives.

Through this exploration, Matali has developed new typologies articulated around principals like; modularity, appropriation, flexibility and networks. Her work, recognised in the 90s as being the refusal of pure form, can be perceived as a research in motion, developing more theories then rules. She collaborates in diverse fields that span from hi-tech industries to traditional crafts, electronic music to textile and fair trade projects.

Matali Crasset spent her youth in a small village in the north of France, on a farm where work and life were intimately related.
