”Most renovation projects aim to create wide-open space, usually from a combination of smaller closed-in rooms. The challenge for Rabih Hage was not just to modernize the look of the place, but to find a way of making it work, adding things like bedrooms and bathrooms, without losing any of the inherent drama. To complicate matters, the existing floor was unable to bear any additional load.
Hage thought of a cantilevered mezzanine along the main back wall. It would not add weight to the room because it is suspended from steel beams running from the front of the building to the back. The new space includes two en suite guest rooms, a master suite and a study - all with no structural supports underneath." Ashlee Moratorio
