Transitional Housing Project
A charity project initiated by a philanthropic organisation. Unpredictable terrain, flat packing for initial storage and speed of intervention and assembly as well as an initial low cost of fabrication were the main challenges. When we add on sanitation planning and a long term relief camp eventuality, we have one of the most complex projects possible.
We have used existing systems of: scaffolding, water filtration and energy creation (through bicycle dynamos) and CNC cut-out marine plywood structures, to create rigidity and aesthetics, attached to highly resistant, waterproof, rubberised canvases to protect from the elements and to collect rain water. The light structure is suitable to seismic areas. The small modules, that can last 3 to 5 years, are assembled and arranged in an urban plan that suits every custom and culture, where a relief camp is needed.
