A Paris pied-à-terre in the 7th Arrondissement, for a bachelor globetrotter.
We wanted to emulate the typical Parisian apartment in this beautifully located pied-à-terre. We have adjusted the existing layout and worked on introducing primarily reclaimed decorative elements, like antique doors from the 1940s and a vintage dining table for the kitchen. Our aim was to create a feeling of continuity and coherence, as if the apartment has been existing in this state for many years.
We introduced reclaimed wooden panelling all around the main reception room and traditional Parisian herring-bone floors to make this apartment a place of calm and restraint with a modern, traditional feel. We have also refreshed and restored the existing 1970s kitchen.
The antique fireplace was bought at the Paris flea market as well as most of the decorative elements of the bathrooms. The bedroom walls were upholstered with Belgian linen and all the furniture is new; a mix of our designs with other pieces by mainly French designers and makers. The marble of the bathrooms has been restored and replaced where necessary, as well as the sanitary fittings.
While the client was waiting to install some new contemporary art on his new walls, we have commissioned some paintings by a young French artist to be used as place-holders. The client loved them and he is now keeping these in situ. An ambience of feutré runs through every detail, warmth and welcoming from the panelling, reclaimed elements, the furniture, the art and the small construction details. Everything that reminds one inside, that Paris, the capital of sophistication, is outside.
